The Marleewood Kids Can Work As A Team

Although Marlee and her Marleewood friends are very young they seemed to know that they needed some organization to their plans for Grandma Lu. They needed to work as a team. They had already decided that they would do some shopping, and some parties, but there needed to be more what the grownups call structure. They talked about it and decided that if everything was going to get done for her they needed some grownup help. So they asked some of their grandmas and mamas and even some of their fathers and grandfathers.
They said that food was their number one important thing.
The second thing was gifts.
The third thing was making Marleewood pretty for Grandma Lu. She said she wanted flowers.
They talked a lot about decorations. They decided that they could be two (2) things. Decorations could be a gift for Grandma Lu too.
One of the grownups said, "You know what one of Grandma Lu's favorite things is? They all said different things like stories, sweets, and her rocking chair with a nice quilt on it. There was a lot of talking and discussing. This was a really big thing they had set out to do. They had never set out to do something like this before.
Finally Bella and both of her brothers said, "Pictures, she just loves pictures. She told us once that she still has photo albums of her mama's from almost a hundred years ago." They talked about making her a photo album of their own. She would love that, wouldn't she? Marlee said, "Let's call Cooper. He has been gone for a long time, but I know he has been decorating eggs, maybe he has some ideas."
Well, Cooper did have an idea. He said, "Well we are all decorating eggs, but some of us are going on Easter egg hunts too, aren't we? Some children said, "Yes." Well, what would be fun is if we had the grownups take our pictures hunting for eggs and we could put those in a photo album for her too." The conversation went wild. Everyone said, "I know." "I know." Until a grownup had to say, "Okay, one idea at a time or we won't get anything done, okay?"
They all agreed. Birthday parties were next. They agreed that so many of them had birthday parties this month that they would all have to pitch in and clean and decorate Marleewood for their parties. They said that they were getting big and that they would help clean up after their parties to help the grownups. Everyone agreed on that.
Nicky was really little, but he was smart. He was standing at the corner listening to the "big" kids. He would see what he could do to help. He liked it at Marleewood and he knew just where there was a cell phone.
Everything was decided. It didn't take long at all. The first things they would do was have pictures taken of decorating
eggs, Then they would take pictures of the the egg hunts. The next thing that would happen was food. They would make Grandma Lu an Easter breakfast too. It would take a couple of weeks, but they knew if they helped each other they would get it done. Coralynn was a planner. She picked some lilacs and smelled the wonderful smell of Spring. She said, "Let's pick some flowers and decorate Marleewood. Finnley said, "That's a great idea. My grandma and I saw some potted flowers at the store we thought would look good too." Myla picked some daisies and said, "I love flowers. I know Grandma Lu does too. Let's pick her lots of flowers. They all agreed that before and during the parties was perfect for flowers.
The children weren't quite as organized as they thought they were. Grandma B came outside and
said, "Aren't you guys forgetting the Easter Egg Hunts tomorrow?" They all started talking at once. For just a little while they had forgotten what Cooper had said. "Marlee giggled. "I am so excited about going on an Easter Egg Hunt I just can't wait until tomorrow! Do any of  you guys think that you will see the Easter Bunny? I bet Grandma Lu would love to see pictures of us with an Easter Bunny. Make sure you tell your parents or whoever takes you to take a picture okay?" They all agreed and went back home to have their supper and get a good night's rest for the big day tomorrow.

  1. Spring is one of the most fun times for children and adults as well. I so remember waiting for the lilacs to bloom when I was a child. That meant that in a day or two it would be my birthday. A very late spring in Iowa. Teamwork is not learned by all folks and many never learn the meaning of there is no I in team. These children will be learning that lesson all week. Have a great day!
