Marlee Tells The Story Of Propunzul

Grandma B and Marlee had stopped off at Marleewood to make sure everything was picked up. The beauty shop had been so busy because everyone had wanted their hair cut and fixed before Story Time at the library. Marlee and Grandma B were laughing about Grandma Lu dressing up like a pirate. Grandma B said, "She is a character. I don't know if I would have dressed up like she did." Marlee said, "Yes, you would have. Me too. That was a fun story. She kept that a secret from everyone. I love her stories. Arghh, matey!"
Marlee went into the Day Care Room and had picked up some books that some folks had brought in for the children to read. She decided that she would bring them out to the Sitting Room to look at them. She looked at Grandma Lu's empty chair and thought, "Some day I am going to tell children stories." She crawled up into Grandma Lu's chair and grinned. She felt so grownup. She started to read the books as only a two year old could; by looking at the pictures.
Grandma B heard a "You hoo!" coming from the back door. "Who else, but Grandma Lu," she grinned. "Hey there, pirate lady, come on in and have a cup of coffee you deserve it. That was a great Story Time. You really kept that a secret from everyone, didn't you?"
"Well, I had to. I made the lady at the library a promise. You don't break promises. So what do you think? Did I make a good pirate?" Grandma B laughed and said, "Yes, you did. You know you did. Here. This is what you really want; a cookie. I brought some in from the store."
The ladies were  in the kitchen visiting for quite some time when they realized that Marlee was very quiet. Grandma B said, "This has been such an exciting day, I wouldn't be surprised if she has fallen asleep on one of the beds in the Day Care Room." They went looking for her and there she was sitting in Grandma Lu's chair with a lap full of books in the Sitting Room.
"Well hello there, Miss Marlee. What are you reading?" Marlee looked at her Grandma B and Grandma Lu with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. She said,  "Do you want me to tell you a story?"
Of course, the grandmas said, "Yes." They pulled up chairs close to Marlee and listened as she began telling them the story of "Propunzul."
"A very very long time ago there was a little dragon called Freddie. Freddie's brothers and sisters all had the good dragon names, so he got stuck with a name that didn't sound like theirs did. He lived far away like maybe twenty miles. He was in this book, "Propunzul". He was supposed to help her escape from the castle that the wicked witch put her in, but she said, "Acra dabba" and he turned into a bunch of rocks."
Grandma Lu said, "Oh my goodness. What happened next?"
"Well, she had "butiful" golden hair just like mine. See?" The grandmas both smiled and nodded their heads. "That wicked old witch wasn't nice at all. She made her stay there until her hair got really long. Then I think Cinderella's Prince Charming saved her "cuz" Fredddie couldn't."
Grandma Lu was having so much fun listening to Marlee tell this ancient fairy tale. "So what happened to the castle and Freddie?" Marlee said, "Grandma Lu, you need to pay attention. I told you that Freddie turned into a bunch of rocks. The castle was made of rocks too. They are just down the road from Grandma B's house. They have been there for at least a hundred years, just like Lady Bonita's castle."
The Grandmas looked at each other and grinned. This was more fun than Story Time was yesterday.
Grandma B said, "May I see a picture of Freddie and the castle?" Marlee said, "Nah, I want to go home now. I'm really really tired."
The Grandmas understood and agreed. They were tired too. Marlee reached up to be carried out to the car because she was really tired. What the Grandmas didn't notice was as they were leaving Marleewood, the book that Marlee had been reading had fallen to the floor. It had fallen open to a picture of a little stone dragon and a beautiful little girl with golden hair...

  1. Some lessons for today! And always have fun with your kids at story time. I can remember my children wanting "a turn" They completely changed the story from what I had read them. I loved it. Marlee can tell me a story anytime!
