Marlee had put on one of her princess dresses to show Grandma Lu. She had asked her if she thought that she was beautiful enough to be in the movies in Hollywood. At that moment both grandmas looked at each other and burst out laughing. They both said, "Oh, Marlee! Yes, you are beautiful enough, but there is so much more to being an actress than a pretty dress."
"Hollywood is a long long ways away first of all. Then you have to find some place to stay while you look for a job. You have to have an agent and they cost money. Where would you get the money to pay an agent? Agents find movies for you to audition for. That means that you have to try out for a part in a movie. There would be lots and lots of other little girls trying out for the same part if there was even a movie being made that needed a little girl your age.
Then you have to pay a person called a manager. They want money too. They are the people that try to convince the movie people that you should play a part in the movie that you auditioned for.
Then you need a lawyer. Once you get a part in a movie the movie people offer you a paper called a contract. It says how much money they will give you. The lawyer has to make sure the contract is a good one for you."
"The other thing is that your mama or daddy would have to be on the movie set once you did get a part, so only one of them could work.
To actually get a part in a movie would be a long shot. Then if you did get a part you would have to get up really early in the morning and be at the movie set for hours doing exactly what the director of the movie tells you to do. If you didn't get it right you have to do it over and over until you did. But the hardest thing to do would be to leave all of your friends here at Marleewood while you are gone to Hollywood chasing your dream. Mind me, dreams are wonderful. Many people succeed in following their dreams, but some don't. Sometimes actors and actresses have to work as waiters and waitresses to make money to stay in Hollywood. I have heard of many sad people just waiting to get a call to audition for a part."
Marlee was quick to answer. "I would take Charlie with me. She would like to be in the movies too. I just know she would. And besides that, she's beautiful too! You should call her nanny, Grandma B and see if she wants to go to Hollywood with me. Please."
"And besides that, I have all of my egg money that I have been saving. So I could pay all those people," Marlee said.
Much to the grandmas' relief, Marlee went into the Quiet Room. Put the card on the door that says Closed. Then she got out her tablet, laid down and watched a movie.
Soon she fell sound asleep and dreamed of being a beautiful actress in Hollywood.
