The Big White Truck To The Rescue

Josh decided to go ahead and give the tree service a call for Allie. It looked like she was going to be busy with Grace for awhile and Addie was still sobbing wanting those cats out of the tree. The owner said that he had caught him on a day that he was going to be out that way anyway so he would be glad to rescue some kittens. He had told Josh he was going to have a new helper with him and would be out in about an hour. In the meantime Josh headed towards the house and said, "I'm hungry. Let's see if we can round up something for breakfast. How's that sound, Addie?"

Addie and her grandma followed Josh into the house. Addie said, "I help?" Josh grinned and said, "If it's okay with your grandma it's okay with me. First let me see if we have some eggs in the fridge. Yup, we sure do. We have plenty of them. Some children and their mother brought some over the other day. They are helping their grandparents feed the chickens. Their grandparents said they could sell some of the eggs and keep the money. So I bought some from them. Here we are. Jean is it okay if I leave you two to the cooking? I need to check my phone for any messages. Thanks."

Jean had Addie wash her hands and pulled a chair over to the counter so that Addie could reach better. Soon she had forgotten about the cats up in the very tall tree. She loved to help cook.

Before long a big truck came into the yard. The owner waved at Josh and said, "Now where are these scared little cats? Lex and I will get them down for you." Josh walked over and grinned. "I can't thank you enough for stopping for a little girl that is mighty upset about those treed cats!"

Josh walked up to the kitchen door and said, "Hey, Addie. Come outside and look. A man with a great big truck is here to rescue those cats that ran up the tree. Want to watch? Oh, I forgot. Have you had something to eat? Oh good. Okay then, come out and see. Hopefully those little cats won't give them any trouble. Sometimes cats scratch humans when they are scared. They will have to be careful not to get hurt."

"Addie, look. He's bringing one down. They are lucky little cats. Hopefully the other two come down as easy as the first one did. I'm going to take this one down to the barn so it can have some food and water. You can stay right by your grandma and watch for the other two."
Soon all three cats were full and happy. They seemed to like their new home for now at least in the barn. Allie and Grace were there when Josh brought them in. "Well, well, well. All the kittens have found a safe place. Hopefully these are the last."
Lex and Phil walked into the barn and said, "Lex would love to ride a horse. She has a friend that loves horses too. Can we give you a call and set up a time for the girls? Great. Okay, gotta run. Got a tree to cut down for your neighbor just a mile or two down the road. No, you don't owe me anything. Glad I could help."

At C.E.D.A.R Ranch in Oklahoma Shadow was being loaded up to live his new life once again at the Double D. Ranch in Texas.  Kane was riding Lady, an older horse they had had for about a year. She had been very sick and needed lots of special food and vitamins plus a lot of medical care that was very costly.  He was happy that Lady was staying on their ranch for awhile longer. She was a good friend. He grinned when he thought about how old she was. She was about twenty-six years old. "I bet if she could talk she would have a lot of stories to tell. My grandma has lots of stories to tell, but she's older than Lady." He did wonder about Shadow though. When they got him he was pretty skinny and looked like he hadn't been eating well. His mom had assured him that Shadow was going back to a good home and he would be fine. His sister was going along on this trip. They took turns sometimes. It was fun. Today they were taking suitcases along that belonged to a girl that was working on the Double D. The bus line sent them to the wrong ranch. He wondered what kind of ranch Shadow was going to. He hoped a good one.

Josh felt his phone vibrate just as the C.E.D.A.R Rescue Ranch truck pulled into the farmyard. Hopefully Jean's daughter's horse, Shadow and Grace's luggage would make the day a little brighter. Things were coming together for Allie. He was happy for her. He glanced down at his phone and it said, Washington D.C. "Have I got some news for you, my friend. How are you going to react when I tell you about the last will and testament of Bill Durnhem in it's entirety? I think this should be a face to face over a cup of coffee meeting. In my book, probably more like many cups of coffee." Then he answered the phone.

  1. The cats are rescued, Grace's things are at the ranch, and so is Shadow, but we still have no idea what's in that will! Who's in D.C?
