Mr. Brown lived in the bottom of a tree.
Mr. Brown had a mama and a daddy.
Mr. Brown had six (6) brothers and sisters.
He had so many brothers and sisters he even forgot their names some days.
Mr. Brown had a secret.
His secret was his very own and he was not ever going to tell his mama and daddy or his brothers and sisters.
Mr. Brown's secret was Grandma Lu.
The tree where Mr. Brown lived was on Grandma Lu's yard.
It was a wonderful tree. It was big around and at the very bottom was a hollow place or a big hole that was covered up with grass that only he and his family could see. Grandma Lu couldn't see very well so he and his family could hop out and see the neighborhood without the neighbors or Grandma Lu ever knowing it.
His secret about Grandma Lu was that she shared her garden with him. He didn't want to share with his mama and daddy and all his brothers and sisters. He wanted all of Grandma Lu's vegetables for himself!
Grandma Lu had red tomatoes and yellow corn. She had green beans and green peppers. He didn't like the green peppers though, so he let Grandma Lu eat those. He did love her green lettuce though. Oh, it was so good and juicy!
She had made a deal with him that if she let him eat vegetables out of her garden he would share with her. He thought that was a really good idea. He liked to share with Grandma Lu. He frowned and made a face. He did not want to share with his family at all. If he shared with them he wouldn't get enough to eat. There were so many of them.
Mr. Brown thought about his family; he wondered if they had enough to eat. He wondered if they were hungry. "Hmm he thought, "Am I being a naughty bunny rabbit?"
His mama had always taught him to be a good bunny, but sometimes it was so hard to be good. He thought about Grandma Lu's little friend, Winter. What would that pretty little girl think if I was selfish?
He tried to think of what she looked like. He hadn't seen her in a long time. I think the last time I saw her it was cold outside and she had a stocking cap and a sweater on. Do you think that Winter would share with her brother and her mama?
