The last story you read, Marlee had been teaching us how to prepare three (3) different things for lunch. She had made a grilled cheese sandwich, a hot dog and some noodles. The hot dog she called a "birthday hot dog." And by the way, she ate it cold, while the others were on the griddle cooking. Grandma B, of course, helped her because she is just two (2) years old.
There were things on the floor in the kitchen that had not been swept up and thrown in the trash. Grandma B always reminded Marlee that when you cook you clean up after yourself and that includes sweeping up the mess.
Well, that didn't happen. Both "B" and Marlee were anxious to go home after the One More Bite show. So the next morning they both dreaded to go into the kitchen because of the mess waiting for them. But when they walked in there was very little spilled food on the floor. However, there was a puddle of milk on the floor. But wait; Marlee didn't use any milk nor did she drink any with her lunch. What was going on?
Well, regardless, the milk had to be scrubbed up and a little sweeping of crumbs swept up and put in the trash. Even though Marlee is little she does her share of cleaning up.
Finally the kitchen was clean. They were about to leave that area when they thought they heard something. Grandma B said, "Marlee, did you just hear a noise in here?" Marlee shook her head and kept on walking, but she did look around her as she walked and peeked behind the cupboards. She didn't see anything, but she had heard a noise. That noise sounded just like a cat. She had a cat at home and so did Grandma B, so she knew the "meow sound" very well.
All the guys were outside on the playground when they drove up so I suppose it could have happened that one of the boys let a cat get into Marleewood. What do you think?
You may have forgotten something very important. Do you remember how many kitchens that Marleewood has? You are right! It has two (2) kitchens doesn't it? I wonder if that is a clue.
As Marlee walked towards the back of her kitchen she slowly walked towards the door leading to the
other kitchen. Remember the one where Emma did some cooking? Well, you are not going to believe this, but there was a little girl eating cookie dough right there by the window in the kitchen! Just as Marlee walked in she took a big bite out of a yummy looking cookie! Well, Marlee of course, had lots of questions: #1. Who are you? #2. Where did you get the cookie dough and the cookies? #3. Did you bring a cat in here with you? #4. Do you want to be my friend? #5. Do you have any more cookies?
Marlee got all the answers that she needed. Her new friend's name was Ginny, her Great Aunt had given her some cookies and just a little bit of dough. She had eaten it all gone. She had put it in a little sack for a snack while she was on a walk. And yes, she had let a cat in the door when she walked in, but not on purpose. "When I walked in, the door was open. Someone must not have closed it good enough. That cat was so pretty. I could tell it was thirsty so I gave it some milk."
Of course, Marlee wanted to see the cat. It was nowhere to be found. They crawled up on chairs and looked out the window and there he was. Oh, he was so pretty and so were the flowers.
The girls and Grandma B went outside to see if they could find a collar with his name and address on it. They found one. His name was Pol.
As you can imagine, Grandma B had her hands full! She had a little girl that walked into Marleewood because they had forgotten to lock the door. There was a strange cat outside. It had a collar that had a tag with his name on it, but no address.
What do you think the first thing Grandma B should do? Well, the first thing "B" did was ask Ginny where she lived. She told her she lived a long ways away and was just visiting her Great Aunt for a few days. She just lived next to the fast food place next door. So that made Grandma B happy, but what was she going to do with the cat?
All of a sudden they heard people calling loudly, "Pol, Pol, Pol, where are you?"
They all looked up and there was Orion and his Grandma Rhonda. They were looking and looking for Orion's mama's cat. They were visiting Grandpa Fran and Pol had gotten away. They were so happy and so was Pol. He went down the sidewalk into the grass. He was ready to go home.
Ginny walked towards the playground and her Great Aunt's house and waved good-bye. She said that she might come back another day. Marlee sure hoped that she would. She liked Ginny and she really thought those cookies looked good. Maybe she would give her the recipe and she and Grandma B could make some someday.
