Blizzard Party #4

While Grandma B and some of the other ladies were making some sandwiches for all of them. Grandma Lu and Aunt Nat were getting the children settled down sitting on the floor and at the table; wherever there was a good place to sit and eat.
If one paid close attention to Mrs. Liz you would notice that very often she looked out the window. She was worried because without power there was a chance that her house would get cold. If the temperature got too low there was a chance that her water would freeze. That would not be good at all. When she looked at the outside thermometer it told her that so far it was above freezing. The amount of people in her house did keep her house warm plus she did have a fire place. Brandon liked sitting there and so did the other children. The wood was out on the deck and needed to be brought in.
Natalie asked Mrs. Liz if she could do something to help her. She smiled and she did ask for some help to bring in some wood. It made Natalie feel so good that she was needed. Something that everyone likes; to be needed and to be able to help a friend. So of course, the two (2) of them got their coats, hats, and gloves on and started carrying in wood to be stacked on a rack by the fireplace.
When they had brought in enough wood they were greeted with a sandwich and a cup of something cold to drink. They had not started a fire in the fire pit yet so no coffee or hot chocolate.
Once the children had something to eat their grumbling stopped. They got out some books to read. Oh, the grandmas were so happy that they were reading books. They knew that if you can read well, you can do anything.
The mattresses were on the floor and everything was all ready for the children and the ladies when it was time to go to bed. Mrs. Liz's children were very willing to share their beds with them.
Now that the children were quiet and happy with their games, books, and playing with some toys, the grandmas had some serious talks. They were not concerned for themselves, they were concerned about Marlee's mama. They discussed the road conditions and the weather. Everything else was fine. They just hoped that Baby Whitlee Jo would wait to arrive until the roads were clear.
Aunt Nat told her new friends that her granddaughter knew how to fly her late husband's small airplane. She was sure that she would be glad to help if there was an emergency.
Well now; that was that. Everyone smiled at Grandma Lu. It was time for a story.

  1. My mother must have told me a hundred times. "If you can read, you can do anything in this world." Literacy is the answer to many of the world's problems.

The lessons Lu has in her stories are wonderful, I hope people read them to their children and Grandchildren.
