Marleewood. One of Grandma Lu's friends, Mrs. Vivian, lives on a small farm. They have chickens too. Mrs.Vivian's children are all grown, but they love to visit her when they can. Today, her daughter was cuddling one of her mother's chickens. When she was little she loved chickens too. Marlee and Bella love chickens, don't they? Mrs. Vivian had called and wanted to know if Marlee and her friends would like to see her chickens. Let's take a look and see if we can remember what color eggs her chickens will lay. That's exactly right. That chicken lays brown eggs.
While Vivian's daughter was visiting they went for a walk and picked enough flowers for a bouquet. It was fun to be outside even though it was very windy. They picked some daffodils. They are yellow.
They stayed only for a little while because they needed to get back to town. Marlee said, "Oh look, B, (Marlee has shortened her Grandma B's name to B) my friends are waiting for me! We need to hurry." Grandma B parked the car and she and her friends got out and ran over to the new playground equipment. There was Emma and her grandmother who she calls "Mana." They were having so much fun.
Emma's mama was swinging too. See her big smile? What makes you smile?
Marlee had headed over to the swings and slides, but she saw Kylee picking dandelions. Dandelions are yellow too, aren't the? Kylee picked a pretty bouquet of yellow flowers for her grandma. When she had given the bouquet to her grandma she got a great big hug! People love bouquets of flowers because they always seem to make a room happy and bright, don't they? Kylee walked towards the fence and saw an old box that had flowers in it. Kylee thought those flowers needed to be planted but didn't have anything to plant them with. When Kylee looked at that old box of flowers she felt sad. She would talk to her Nana (grandmother) about them. "She knows how to do lots of things," she thought. "I think these flowers need to be with a big family of flowers. Yup, I think Nana will know what to do."
Marlee and Kylee walked around and found some dandelions that had gone to seed. When they do that they are not yellow anymore. They turn white and fluffy with little seeds in them. The wind blows the fluffy part away and the seeds grow somewhere else. Kylee picked three (3) of them.
Marlee wanted to know why she had picked them. They weren't pretty like the yellow ones. Kylee told Marlee that she picked it because you could make a wish on the ones that had gone to seed. She said if you closed your eyes, make a wish, then blow really hard the fluffy white part will blow away. Kylee said, "It's probably just pretend or make believe, but it's fun to wish on things."
Marlee said, "Well, what would you wish for?"
Marlee had already wished on a lady bug. So she knew all about wishes. She also knew that wishing was fun, but that what she already had; lots of love from her family was enough for her. Kylee wasn't convinced so she just grinned and made a really big wish. Not just for her, but for her sister, Kenlee too.
Grandma Lu was watching the girls and heard Kylee and Marlee talking about wishes and dandelions and lady bugs. She walked over to the girls and said, "You know what my mama used to say about wishes? When I was a little girl she said, 'LuAnne, if wishes were dollar bills, you would be rich!'" Marlee and Kylee giggled and went to join the other children on the swings and slide.
Marlee whispered in Kylee's ear, "I wonder who LuAnne was."
Yes, I just wonder who that LuAnne was! lol
