Marlee Can't Find Prince Charming

When Grandma B and Marlee got back from the park it was time for Marlee's mama to pick her up and take her home. After they had left Grandma B thought about Marlee saying that she didn't want to be an ugly duckling. "How in the world did she even think about that story? I don't think I have ever read that to her. Well, I will talk to her if she says something about that again. I want her to feel good about

herself and other people too. There is nothing worse than getting picked on by other children. She will be going to dance classes soon. There will be other children there, I don't want her to be judged by her looks or color of her skin, or anything like that. I just want her to have lots of friends and be kind to other kids."

The next day Marlee came over to visit just for the afternoon. They had such fun. Marlee showed her that she had learned some new things at dance class that morning. She could point her toes and kick her leg backwards if she held on to her little chair. She had two new dance outfits. She had new dance shoes too. One dress was pink and one dress was black. They each had matching shoes. She loved her new dance clothes.

The dance teacher was going to be gone for awhile though so there wouldn't be any classes for awhile.
While Marlee was showing Grandma B the new dance moves that she had learned Grandma B had a thought. She said, "Marlee, how would you like to invite some friends over for a pool party? Don't you think that would be fun?"
Oh, Marlee loved that idea. "Yes, yes! That would be so much fun. Who shall we invite, "B"? I have a new swim suit. Can we have snacks too? I especially want to tell them about Freddy."
Grandma B thought, "What? Is she still thinking about that "Propunzul" story she was telling Grandma Lu and I the other day?' She chuckled to herself and said, "Sure you can have snacks. You can invite your friends and their parents too if you want to."
Soon they were busy making a list of friends to invite as well as snacks Marlee wanted for the party. Summer time is so much fun.

When they were finished, Marlee was in the living room playing with her Barbie dolls. Grandma B peeked in to make sure Marlee was having fun when she heard a conversation she was having with one of her Barbies. She was a beautiful Queen that was all dressed in pink and wore a crown. She also carried a magic wand.
"Well, Queen you need to rescue me "cuz" I can't find the Charming anywhere. I yell and yell for him, but I can't ever seem to see him. I don't even know what he looks like. I sure hope I can find him pretty soon. Will you help me? Do you know Freddie? He is going to take me for a ride once I get rescued from the castle. OK? We are going to see some swans and some elves too. I like elves."

Grandma B stood at the doorway and listened to this beautiful granddaughter of hers carrying on a two way conversation with her Barbie. "She has such a wonderful mind. I love her imagination and her ability to make herself understood. But I don't get the elves thing. She hasn't seen an elf since December. I wonder if she is talking about my fairy garden. I have no idea, but she is having a good time that's for sure."
Being reassured that Marlee was fine, Grandma B went out to her fairy garden to make sure that her little fairies were comfortable in their little homes under her big tree. She could be heard talking and laughing with her little people if you were a little girl out on the porch listening to her Grandma B.

  1. Oh the imaginations of two year olds! However, old people have just as good imaginations as they do. But many choose not to use them. I choose to use mine! I love being in Marlee's imaginary world.
