When Grandma Lu got home she took her hat off and told her husband that her friends were trying to make up a job for her so that she wouldn't miss the children at Marleewood. She told them their made up story of a missing book and laughed. He just shook his head and said, "They are messing with the wrong woman. I feel sorry for them." Grandma Lu grinned and said, "Well, they didn't know it, but when they offered me this silly make believe job I found myself thrilled to death to do something really fun. Pulling a prank on those three will be more fun than I have had in years."
At Grandma B's house Marlee was asking her Grandma to go to Marleewood. "I want to see Grandma Lu. I miss her. She hasn't told me a story forever!"
Grandma B laughed and said, "Well, I think she is busy today. She might be getting a new job at the school. We will have to wait and see."
"Why does she want a job? She needs to tell us stories and especially eat snacks. She keeps us busy making snacks for her." Grandma B and Marlee both grinned thinking of their Grandma Lu and her love for sweets.
Marlee said, "Shall we make some cupcakes for her?"
And cupcakes they made! They even had cherries on top. Marlee was sure that Grandma Lu would love them.
Grandma Lu's husband could hear her out in the kitchen making a bunch of noise. "What are you doing out there? Sounds like a herd of cattle going through the kitchen!"
Grandma Lu laughed and said, "Well, I'm going through some of my old books and emptying out boxes. It needed to be done anyway. But I am busy getting ready for my tour of the school tomorrow. I want to take a surprise for them; a book that I think will fool them. I should have something that will work in all of these boxes."
Well Grandma Lu had made such a mess of empty boxes she took them down to the basement. While she was down there she discovered something that was so old that she had forgotten she even had it. She sat down on an old chair and as she read the old old story she felt tears roll down her cheeks. When she was finished, she put the book under her arm and carried the two pieces back up to the kitchen. You see the book was so old that it had fallen apart with age, but mainly with repeated turning of the pages. She was busy looking through the brown paper sacks that she saved. She took one out of the pantry, grabbed some Scotch Tape and scissors and started her project on the kitchen table. When it was done she sat back took a look; wiped her eyes and said, "This should do it. Farewell, my friend. Don't worry I will see you soon."
