Sometimes Hunches Pay Off

Grandma Lu enjoyed seeing her old friends at the cafe, but she had a feeling that she didn't know the whole story. They wanted her to go undercover as a substitute teacher in their new school to look for a missing book. "I think B has something to do with this little scheme of the so called missing book story."
She looked behind her and her friends were still in the cafe. Their car was still parked there. "In case they catch me I will say that I have forgotten something on purpose," she grinned to herself. She turned back and quietly went back into the cafe. She grinned, "I was right. I might be getting up there in years, but I wasn't born under a cabbage plant. They are trying to make me happy by giving me this make believe job. I might just tell them I will take it to have a little fun with my old friends. This is much more fun than a teaching job."

Grandma Lu stood in the shadows and listened to Mr. and Mrs. K talk on speaker phone to Grandma B. "No, she didn't take the job. She asked us so many questions we thought we were done for. She wanted to know how much she was going to get paid. Then she wanted to know how many days a week and what hours. B, she said she wasn't qualified as far as her education in this state, so I had to tell her that this was a special assignment and wouldn't count as a regular teaching job."

"Good grief, it was crazy. She finally said that before she took the job she wanted a tour of the school someday. At least we got her that far. I don't know if we can get her to take the job or not. What are we going to do if she turns us down flat? I know her. She may think something is fishy."

Grandma B made a face. "She just might. Just hang in there. Maybe when she sees the kids she will want to stay and be a substitute teacher after all. Don't worry yet."

"Well, well, well, my friends. It is time to play! I can't wait to pull a few tricks on these dear friends of mine. They want me happy? I will show them happy. I just can't wait to call them tomorrow and tell them I want a tour of their school as soon as possible. I have a plan. But first I need to get out of here before they see me. I need to go home and do a few things to get ready. I know the very first thing I am going to do. Hee-hee."

Marlee came out to the kitchen and said, "B, you need to get off the phone. Whitlee Jo is eating all of our snacks. Make her stop, B! The snack basket is almost empty!"
