When Grandma B opened up her mailbox she was so surprised. There was a letter in it for Marlee. Why would anyone send mail to a little two year old girl? It was from Texas! "No, it couldn't be, could it? Do you supposed this is from one of those Texas cowboys that helped her be safe when she was prospectin' for gold?"
Grandma B grinned to herself and actually couldn't wait to give it to Marlee when she woke up from her nap.
When Marlee woke up from her nap Grandma B gave her her letter. It was a message that said, "Dear Marlee, it is your birthday today and I wanted to wish you happy birthday!" Plus he had sent her a picture that he had colored. He colored one just like it for his Great great grandmother, Marie. It was from one of those Texas cowboys; Orion.
Grandma B loved his picture and told Marlee that she could put it up on her refrigerator at home. Orion also sent Marlee a picture of a birthday party he had had when he was young. He hoped she liked it and would be his friend.
Marlee was always cuddly when she woke up from a nap. She liked to sit on B's lap and and they would talk about stuff. She was getting older now and could understand some grown up stuff and talk a lot herself. Marlee said, "B, what is a birthday? Have I ever had one before? What do I do on my birthday? Why did I get a picture for my birthday? Orion wants to be my friend. What is a friend, Grandma B?"
Grandma B smiled and hugged Marlee and answered her questions right away. "A birthday is the same time every year. It is the day that you were born and went home to live with your mama and daddy; August 21, 2016. On that day last year we celebrated your first birthday and this year we will celebrate your second birthday. You got a picture from a friend that just happened to know that your birthday was coming soon. Wasn't that nice of him? A friend is a person, boy or girl that you like and like to talk to. If you are lucky, you get to do fun things with. Some people have lots of friends and some people have just one or two. It doesn't make any difference how many friends that you have. It does make a difference if they are good friends and are nice to you. Of course, you have to be nice to them right back." All that her Grandma B was telling her sounded good. She was pretty little and didn't have any friends yet. Marlee thought she would like to give it a try.
What do you think, are birthdays fun? Orion had a fun birthday party when he was 4 years old so he sent a picture of him and his Grandma Rhonda and Aunt Jennifer. He had lots of cousins and friends there to help him celebrate his special day.
Maybe Grandma B will take pictures of Marlee's second birthday party. See you soon!
Well we found out where B was, now we need to figure out why everyone is so tired all the time....
