It was decorated with Christmas tinsel, red ribbons, silver rope and Christmas ornaments. But it was laying in the ditch in the snow against a very sharp barbed wire fence. Ouch!
Marlee and Sawyer had asked permission to go to the fast food place next door to Marleewood so they could have a private talk. Grandma B helped them on with their coats, but she also had called Mrs. Sandy. She told her what was going on and to please keep an eye on them. Mrs. Sandy had agreed with a smile. She loved Marlee and knew all about her adventures. She had even fooled her once when she wanted to be a chef. That was such fun.
Anyway, Sawyer agreed that something had to be done about that little tree and he knew just what Marlee should do. She should have her daddy go and rescue that little tree because he had also seen on the "Very Special News" that a daddy had gotten hurt in a car accident and couldn't work. So he and his family had no money for a tree or presents or even very much food. They even had a tiny little baby!
Sawyer and his parents gave toys that he had outgrown to charities, so he knew all about the good feeling you have when you give someone something that they would love and also need.
Well, that did it. Marlee was on a mission. The first thing she would do when they got back to Marleewood was to tell Grandma B what needed to be done.
She did just that. Grandma B was on the phone to her son quick like a fox! He worked for the road department. It had snowed a lot and they were out clearing off snow from the roads. You will never believe this, but she caught him just before they got to the ditch where that little Christmas tree was.
They found her!
Well, once they had that poor little Christmas tree loaded they took it to the address that Marlee had given her Grandma B. When they opened the door and saw Marlee's daddy with this sweet little tree in his hands they smiled so hard that they had tears in their eyes.
Oh what a Merry Christmas they were going to have because they were also going to receive a food basket that Marlee and her Grandma B had donated too. Her daddy and his friends had stopped at Marleewood and picked up some gifts for the baby and her parents that were all wrapped up pretty. Oh look, there is even a homemade baby quilt for that little baby.
They will look so nice under that little Christmas tree. She won't be sad or scared anymore. Her lights will twinkle merrily.
Miracles do happen, not just at Christmas, but every day.
Thanks to my highschool classmate for the photo of her baby quilt, Marie's niece for the beautiful hand quilted stockings. And of course to everyone that donates to the folks that need help.
