Cleaning And Decorating Part 2: Marlee Talks About Mrs. Owens And Whitlee Jo

When Marlee woke up from her nap she and Grandma B went into town. They unloaded the vacuum from the car and some other things they thought they might need. It was Spring and time for a new beginning in their favorite place to hang out with friends and family.
Marlee started to vacuum while Grandma B and Grandma Lu started wiping up spills, and mopping the kitchen floors. Mud had gotten tracked in from the thunderstorm during the party the other day. Pretty soon the kitchens were sparkling clean and smelled so good. Charlie's grandma had brought in another bouquet of flowers. That was so nice of her.
The Grandmas sat down for a minute and had a cup of coffee. They had put out some snacks for them to enjoy. Those bars look really good. That Aunt Diane is such a good baker!
Actually I think that instead of needing a break I think they were both stalling. They didn't know where to start first. The beauty shop would take some doing. There was an extra bathroom on the second floor that could be remodeled if they decided to go that route. They needed to think about that for awhile. They did agree on using the Humansville pictures and mementos in the Sitting Room. It seemed like the folks that came to shop or listen to stories always ended up in either the Sitting Room or the Community Room.
Marlee was listening to the Grandmas talking. She said, "I have an idea. I want the picture of Whitlee Jo and me in the Daycare Room. She's a baby and I'm her big sister. We need that to go in there, don't we? The Grandmas immediately agreed with her. They went through their phones and came up with a good one. Grandma B said, "Marlee that was a really good idea. We will pick out one that you really like and have it framed. Is that okay?" Marlee agreed and immediately went back to her snack.
Grandma Lu said, "Okay, "B", let's get crackin' on these pictures. They all need to be cleaned and probably repaired before we hang them up." Marlee looked up and smiled and said, "Oh, that's Mrs. Owens. I know her. She showed me around town didn't she?" The Grandmas looked at each other and said to Marlee. "Well, that's what you told us Marlee. She was a very important part of Humansville history. I think she would love it if we hung up some of her awards and pictures." Grandma B and Grandma Lu went through some of the plaques and pictures. "Let's start with these two (2). We'll get them cleaned and repaired and find a good place for them in the Sitting Room. What do you think?" Grandma Lu agreed and they went to work.
Once again, Marlee smiled and finished her snack. That was enough grownup talk for her. It was time to go outside and play. This time Marlee asked permission to go out and play with her friends. They were outside with Ryan and Andy's dad. They were having a good time on the trampoline that they had donated. The Grandmas could look out the kitchen window and watch the children play. All was well at Marleewood on this beautiful Spring day.

  1. Many hours I have spent watching my children play out my kitchen window while I was doing dishes. I remember tears running down my cheeks while they walked hand in hand across the back yard. They were 2 and 4. Good days for a mama. Marlee and Whitlee Jo hopefully will be good friends also.
