Moss was not aware that there was a grown human in the forest.
Lycan's mother, Luna, knew that there was a man at the deserted cabin at the side of the hill however. She had been watching this man for years. No one lived at that old house, but that man would plant flowers there every year. He even put lawn furniture out in the yard. He would visit that old cabin once or twice a year. He would walk around the house and look to the sky. He didn't make a sound. He didn't whistle or hum. He just planted flowers and walked around the property. He would go in the house but only for a short time. To Luna the man looked troubled and sad.
The poor old house was about ready to fall down. The boards were gray with age. There were bushes and a small shed that had been at one time a tool or wood shed.
The wolf would stand behind a tree in the forest and watch the human. She also had a wish. She wished that she could tell that human what had happened in this cabin. Wolves are very smart, but they are also, for the most part wary of humans. They seldom want to be seen because humans have been known to hurt wolves. Wolves have very sharp teeth and eyes that aren't like humans. People are often fearful of people or animals that aren't the same as them or domestic animals like puppies and kittens.
When wolf pups are born their eyes are blue. When they are older the color of their eyes change to different colors. Their eyes sometimes look like they glow in the dark.
It would soon be dusk. The man would be leaving soon. She needed to tell him her story. She had to think. She needed the little wood nymph, Moss, to know also.
She carefully walked over to the fence. Luna waited until the man saw her. The man didn't seem afraid. He sat down in one of the chairs that was outside by the cabin. The man patted his knee. Luna thought about it, but didn't sense any danger. She walked over and put her head on the man's knee. The man petted Luna's head and spoke. "What is it that you are trying to tell me? I can hear you howl when you don't think I am watching. What is it, girl? Can I help you?"
Luna started to nudge her head against the man's hand and looked him straight in the eye. She told the story of how Moss's mother came to be held captive in a castle high on a hill next to the sea. She whined and rolled her head under the man's hand. When she finished she raised her head and let out a howl so loud that it could be heard for six (6) miles. It carried so far that Lycan heard his mother's call in Marlee's small hometown where he lived. And so did Grayson.
Luna's howl was so loud that little Moss sat up and looked around her. Then she heard it again. She was going to follow the sound. Maybe she could find those little girls.
As Moss came around the corner she could see the wolf with her head in the man's hand. The wolf seemed troubled. She inched closer so she could hear what the wolf was telling the stranger. Then she saw the tears. The man's face was wet with tears. He didn't make a sound, but patted the wolf and walked away. Away from the cabin, away from the forest
never to be seen again.
Moss knew that she had to talk to the wolf. Moss just knew that the wolf would help her. Little did Moss know that the wolf knew her mother. It was her mother's story that Luna would tell Moss very soon.
Luna had told the stranger about people that he had never met. Luna told him about his great grandparents and why they had to leave their beautiful home.
