Marlee Learns About Mistakes

Things weren't going well at Grandma Lu's house. Neither she nor her husband could find her black bag or her cell phone. Grandma Lu finally sat down and closed her eyes. She just had to find that black purse. She had made Marlee a promise to bring that golden egg back today. Her husband walked in and said, "Did you find your purse and cell phone yet?"
Grandma Lu sighed and said, "No I haven't." As she went to stand up she looked down by her chair. There was nothing there but a memory. A memory that just might solve this puzzle. "Did you take those two (2) black bags to the Thrift Shop like I asked you too?" Her husband shook his head no. He said, "I took three (3) black bags; two (2) big bags and then your old black bag you had sitting on floor beside them. You did want them all to go, didn't you?"

It's funny that their next door neighbors didn't hear Grandma Lu yell. "You what? You took my black purse to the Thrift Shop? I can't even call them because they don't have a phone. It is run by all volunteers. I have to go down there and see if they have sold my purse. Sometimes they put things in a big truck and take them to the city. Oh you are in so much trouble!"
"Me in trouble? You are the one that told me to take the black bags to the Thrift Shop. I just did what you asked me to do."
What we have here is a big mistake made by two (2) people. Mistakes are something that Marlee doesn't know about yet. Grandma Lu's husband did do what Grandma Lu told him to do. Grandma Lu calls her purses bags sometimes, remember? If she would have just said, "Make sure not to take my "hand bag" then there would not have been so much trouble. This mistake even ended in an argument, didn't it?
Grandma Lu drove down to the Thrift Shop only to see bags and bags and boxes of things waiting to be taken inside the store. She walked into the store and saw so many hand bags and clothes she just shook her head. She walked over to the counter and took a chance that the lady would have remembered her hand bag.
Of course, she didn't remember her purse just as Grandma Lu presumed. She sadly thanked the lady and went home to call Marlee.
"This is the hardest phone call I've ever made. No, I think that's the chicken's way out. I'm just going down to Marleewood and tell Marlee what happened. That her golden egg was taken to the Thrift Shop by mistake.
When Grandma Lu drove into the Marleewood parking lot she saw Grandma B talking on a cell phone and laughing. Marlee waved at her and came running up to her and gave her a great big hug around her legs. "I think you made a mistake, Grandma Lu. I know you have lost your purse and cell phone. Grandma B told me. And you know what else? I was just talking to a lady on a cell phone. She said she made a mistake and left her cell phone stuck on my new riding toy when she sold it to  my Grandma B. She said that we all make mistakes sometimes. You just couldn't help it could you? I sure would like my golden egg back, but if you can't ever find it, that's okay. You got time to push me in a swing?"
Grandma Lu sighed a big sigh of relief. Marlee and she were having such a good time on the Marleewood playground. Neither Marlee nor she heard the "whoosh!" in the forest not too far away...

  1. Promises have to be broken sometimes. I never will forget the first promise I made my daughter and had to break it. That was almost 50 years ago. Not a fun time. Little ones need to know about so many things don't they. Forgiveness is just one of many.
