Mr. Owens Said "There Used To Be A Boat There"...

Nana and Grandma B were sitting in the front kitchen having coffee and discussing the crazy purse mystery. "We really need to be careful what we say and how we say things, don't we? How easy it was to get things mixed up. Grandma Lu's husband and Grandma Lu touch so many lives that just one missing purse affected so many people."
"I know for one thing. I am always going to open a purse before I buy it even if it is for the girls to play dress up." Nana and Grandma B agreed on that.
"What are you going to do today, Grandma B?"
"Well, I started to hang some pictures that Grandma Lu got for her Wish Party. She got so many gifts that aren't displayed or put out for people to enjoy when they visit here. I really should get busy and get some of that done."
"Would you like some help? I love to come here. It just seems like Marleewood is a special place. Bad things don't happen here. I love how Grandma Lu's easy chair has a quilt on it and her books and even a glass holder is right there on her little table for her to use."
Grandma B said, "Oh that reminds me. She got a gift in the mail. One of her friends knows that she loves quilts and chickens. She sent her a poster of a chicken quilt!" Oh they had a good chuckle about that. They looked at each other and laughed again. It was a very good day.
"You know if you are serious about helping me we could put up some of Mrs. Owens awards and her husband Rick Owen's paintings. Marlee loves them and so do the rest of the folks that come to visit. Whey don't we look through what we have and do a walk through. That way we can decide where the pictures would look the best.
"Oh look, here is one that he painted. I think there is a story about that one. I'm not sure exactly how it goes. I think he said that he originally painted that picture for a friend of mine's mother. He would tell them to look at the spot (smudge in the paint) in the painting and say, 'There used to be a boat there, but it sank.' How fun and talented he was!"
Nana was happy to do something different today and also she just wanted to do something nice for Grandma Lu. That nice older lady had had a few rough days lately. This would cheer her up.
While the ladies were walking through Marleewood and discussing where the different paintings and pictures would look nice, Marlee was in the Back Kitchen looking at her golden egg. It looked pretty beat up to her. She didn't remember the scratches on it. It wasn't even very shiny anymore. All at once it started to shake. Then it skittered off the kitchen table and fell on the floor and broke into two (2) pieces.
It was at that exact same time that two (2) little girls found themselves on their backs lying in a bed of pine needles. They were looking straight up at the sky through so many trees. They were deep in a forest...

  1. Mr. and Mrs. Owens will continue to pop up in Marlee's adventures. In my opinion they were an adventure unto themselves. They accomplished a lot and are remembered by many.
