Marlee had climbed up the beanstalk and was on her way down the road to the giant's house. She didn't knock this time. She didn't want to meet up with that giant. (She tossed and turned in her sleep.) Oh she did hope that Cook would hide her just in case the giant was in the kitchen. She slowly and quietly opened the door. The giant was sound asleep, but his harp was weeping. She was so sad. Well, Marlee was sad because the harp was sad. She thought, "Well, I might as well take this little harp home with me. The hen is gone; it was sickly anyway. Now I will at least have a little music for my mama to sing to." About that time the giant snored so loud that he woke himself up. He jumped and said, "Where is my magic hen? Where is my magic harp?" Well, he scared Marlee so badly that she ran for dear life for the beanstalk. She wanted her mama!
The giant had turned red then blue then almost white he was so angry. He thought, "I am going to catch that little girl. She has my harp under her arm. She cannot have it! That little girl is going to be so sorry that she ever planted those magic beans."
About that time a strong wind came blowing from the north through the leaves in the beanstalk. There in the clouds was the beautiful Rocking Chair Ranger called Breeze. She had been sitting high above the clouds watching what was happening in the beanstalk. She decided that it was time to have a little fun with that mean old giant. She looked down and said, "Okay, Goliath, you have been waiting for a thousand years to get back at that mean giant for turning you into a giant bug. I can't change you back into a giant Goliath moth, but here's your chance to get even. You are free to put your magic to work. Let the little girl, Marlee, be safe from him. Do it now before he catches her!"
Goliath couldn't believe his little golden ears. He was going to have so much fun. He was hiding in the bushes by the scary looking house close to the road. Soon the giant came running towards him. Goliath scooted out in the road and quietly flew onto the giant's shoes. "One little pinch and the giant should start to melt before he reaches little Marlee," he thought.
The mean old giant grunted, "Ugh, what's happening to me. I think I am melting. How can that be? I am big and strong, nothing can hurt me."
But sure enough the little golden bug, Goliath, had done his work. The mean giant had melted all the way down the beanstalk. Soon there was just a puddle at the bottom of the beanstalk on the ground. All that was left was his straw hat laying on the ground.
Marlee was not aware that she had friends to keep her safe in the beanstalk. She is sure to find out just exactly how much her friends loved her.
My friend Carole always used to say "Make friends wherever you go because someday they will be there to watch your back. How true that is!

ReplyDeleteI know that lifes ups and downs will definitely in the end always will tell us who are friends and who isn't. Sometimes it's the least of those we expect to sometimes have our backs. This story definitely does give even myself an aahaaa moment for sure... love these stories
