"You aren't giving me a chance to answer you, Marlee. I thought I knew a short cut, but I guess I was wrong."
"You guess? Yes, you are so wrong. I guess it's going to be up to me to find the right road. I wonder if anyone lives at the end of the road. That barn looks empty to me. I'm going up there to see." Cooper said, "Wait for me. I'm coming with you."
While they were walking down the road, Cooper was wishing he was at his grandma and grandpa's house playing ball out in the yard. Sometimes his grandpa read stories to him and his brother, Lucas. "I don't get yelled at there. Boy, Marlee is sure a grouch today. I just made a little mistake is all."
Grandma Lu was driving down the road thinking about the beautiful wedding she had seen and all the children playing at the park she had stopped at. She thought she saw Marlee and Cooper in a little blue car. "Mercy on us, old woman. Now you are imagining things. I know Marlee is at home with her papa and I think that Cooper lives in Florida now. Get a grip. Just get to Florida, see the sights and enjoy the Pirate Parade and get home. You should have insisted that Fran come along. Maybe you are just homesick. I do miss that old man and our dogs, Maggie and Bandit. They are probably playing on the floor and having fun. I hope he remembers to fill their water bowl and to eat right. Maybe I should call him and make sure everything is okay."
Grandma Lu was wool gathering as she put it and realized that she was driving pretty slow. Cars were honking at her and passing her. One mean looking old woman gave her a really dirty look and actually shook her fist at her. "Mercy, I don't want to see her again. She doesn't look like a very nice lady. The driver doesn't look very happy. I wonder what's going on with them. Well, I don't have far to go. Just a few more hours, I think."
Emma started to giggle and said, "Mom, look at that old lady in front of us. She is driving so slow that people are honking their horns at her. Did you see that little blue car up there? There was a little girl yelling at the guy driving. She looked really mad, didn't she? I'm sure glad she isn't mad at me. I'm sure glad you don't yell at me. I love going places with you. We always see something fun."
